STORM LAKE, Iowa (December 7, 2019) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team finally got the chance to play a regular season game on its home floor, but the eight-ranked Wartburg College Knights came into Siebens Fieldhouse and handed the Beavers a tough 82-42 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Wartburg (6-1, 2-0 A-R-C) jumped out to a 20-8 lead after the first quarter, and after the Beavers ran off four straight to get within eight to start the second, the Knights used a 14-0 lead to break the game open en route to a 49-18 lead at the break. BVU was held to eight points in both the first and third quarters before outscoring Wartburg 16-12 in the final frame.
Senior
Destiny Einerwold was the only Beaver to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points, on the strength of 7-of-8 at the free-throw line. Junior
Erin Gerke followed with nine points, four assists and three steals.
BVU was held to 27.8 percent shooting from the field, and just two three-point buckets. The Knights had a balanced offensive scoring attack, led by Kaitlyn Volesky's 13 points. The team had 12 players get into the score column with nine of them reaching at least six.
Both teams combined for 45 turnovers while the Knights held a 42-29 advantage on the glass.
Buena Vista drops to 1-8 overall (0-2 A-R-C). The team is off for finals week and will gear up for a trip out to Washington state on December 14-15 to play games against both Whitworth and Whitman.
