About St. Olaf
The Oles comes into the weekend at 1-1 overall after picking up an 87-53 road win on Tuesday night at North Central University (Minn.). The team dropped its season opener at Bethany Lutheran College, 73-56, on November 9. It'll be just BVU's fifth-ever meeting with the Oles and the first since 2006-07 when the Beavers notched their only win of the series, 73-51, in a game played in Storm Lake. Camryn Scott is averaging a team-high 12.0ppg and 7.0rpg through the first two games. Rachel Kelly is right behind at 11.5ppg and 6.0rpg. The team is just 8-of-45 from downtown (.178) and is shooting 36.4 percent from the field overall. Defensively, the Oles are +2.0 in rebounding, averaging 43.0rpg and have forced 52 turnovers.
About Saint Benedict
Saint Benedict tipped-off its season on November 11 with an 85-51 road victory at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Alex Johnson turned in a game-high 22 points, grabbed 10 boards and had two blocks. She was 11-of-15 shooting from the field. Sidney Schiffler followed with 11 points and three assists. The Bennies shot nearly 57 percent from the field overall and went 7-of-10 from behind the arc. This will be just the third meeting all-time between the Beavers and Bennies. BVU took the first-ever match-up, 74-64, in 2015-16 before Saint Benedict picked up a 73-63 triumph in 2017-18.
About Buena Vista
The Beavers will play its first official games of the season and the first contests of the
David Wells era. The team has not competed since an exhibition game at home against Dordt College on October 29 when it fell, 91-63.
Erin Streit led three players in double figures with 17 points, on 5-of-11 shooting, to go along with three steals.
Destiny Einerwold was right behind with 15 points and seven rebounds. BVU is coming off a 7-18 season in 2018-19 and hopes that a strong, experienced nucleus that is returning will make a big impact as it begins this season. Junior
Erin Gerke is the leading returning scorer at 10.9ppg and also led the way in assists (61) and steals (61). Einerwold chipped in with 8.9ppg and made a team-high 68 free-throws. As a team, the Beavers shot 38.1 percent from the field overall and also attempted 533 free-throws. It'll look to take better care of the ball after averaging 22.5 turnovers per contest and be more of a force on the glass after being outrebounded by nearly 5.0rpg.
Up Next: The Beavers will travel to Nebraska Christian College for a non-conference game on Tuesday, November 19 for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
