Box Score The Buena Vista football team returned home for the first time in three weeks on Saturday to host Coe College, but the comeback attempt for BVU in the fourth quarter came up short as the Kohawks rolled off 14 straight points to hand the Beavers a 35-14 loss.
BVU was trailing 21-14 and driving deep in Kohawk territory before quarterback Cole Miller was intercepted for a 97-yard pick-six to extend Coe's lead to 28-14 with 10:11 remaining in the quarter. On the Beavers' next possesion, Miller was again picked-off at their own 25 which would later result in a nine-yard touchdown pass with 5:39 left.
Buena Vista led 6-0 late in the first quarter after Eric Pacheco found the endzone on an option play from eight yards out, capping a 16-play, 95-yard drive. The point-after-attempt was blocked.
From there, it was all Kohawks the rest of the half with 21 straight second quarter points, including a pair of touchdown passes.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, and then it was the Beavers knocking on the door of a comeback after Miller scampered 19 yards for his first rushing touchdown of the year to make it 21-14 with just a minute gone by in the fourth. The team later got the ball back and drove down inside the Coe redzone before the key interception return.
Miller finished 11-of-29 passing for the Beavers for 88 yards and three interceptions. He was also the team's leading rusher with 44 yards on 16 carries. Josh Werge rushed for 29 yards on five attempts.
