Box Score 2 The Buena Vista softball team wrapped up the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a split of two games; picking up a second consecutive 8-2 victory over Wittenberg before losing in walk-off fashion, 3-2, against DePauw.
Carlee Guyett finished with three hits against Wittenberg, including a double and then a big two-run home run in the fourth inning which helped spark a five-run inning that broke open a 2-2 tie. Kennedy Colvert added a two-run single after Taylor Frain was hit by a pitch that also plated a run.
Michaela Mason doubled and scored twice while also swiping two bases. Colvert finished with two hits and a team-high three RBI.
Moriah Guyett improves to 7-3 on the year with her 10th complete-game of the season. She scattered eight hits, struck out five and walked three.
BVU took a 2-1 lead against DePauw with RBI singles from Mckynze Hansen and Keely Bycroft in the fifth. DePauw pulled even in the sixth before registering back-to-back two-out doubles in the seventh to plate the game-winning run.
BVU was held to just five singles in the contest, and both teams left six runners on base.
Marissa Promes went the distance but took the loss, allowing nine hits and striking out three.
Buena Vista is now 15-7 overall. The team is scheduled to host fifth-ranked Luther College on Wednesday afternoon in an Iowa Conference doubleheader starting at 3:00pm. It will then play a rescheduled doubleheader on Thursday, April 12, against No. 23 Central College with first pitch at 4:00pm.
