Box Score 2 Michaela Mason hit two solo home runs in game two of Friday afternoon's doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan to help aid Buena Vista to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Titans. IWU won the opener, 6-1.
After the Titans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the first, the Beavers tied things up in the third when Mckynze Hansen, who had the RBI single in the seventh inning of game one for BVU's only score, drove home Carlee Guyett. Autumn Boland scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to give the Beavers their first lead of the day before Mason made it 3-2 in the fifth.
The two teams then played home run derby the rest of the way with Mason hitting solo shots in the fifth and seventh while the Titans hit a pair of solo home runs in the sixth and seventh.
Mason finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Boland had a pair of doubles.
Marissa Promes moved to 5-1 with a complete-game, four hitter. Only two of the three runs she allowed were earned while striking out six.
The Titans scored five of their six runs in game one with just two swings of the bat. They took a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run double before opening a 6-0 advantage in the fifth with a three-run double.
Hansen finished with two of BVU's six hits.
Buena Vista improves to 12-6 on the year while the Titans are now 14-4. The two teams will meet up again on Saturday morning at 11:00am when they open up the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament. BVU will take on Wittenburg later in the afternoon before playing two more games on Sunday to wrap-up the two-day event.
