Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The bats continue to explode during the early part of the season as the Buena Vista softball team got its 2018 Spring Break trip off on the right foot with a pair of lopsided victories on Thursday afternoon at Lincoln Park.

BVU scored in all but two innings during its opener against Hood College, including three runs in both the fifth and seventh innings en route to a 10-2 victory.  Michaela Mason blasted her second home run of the season in the first inning to give the Beavers a quick 2-0 lead.  The team led 2-1 until getting an RBI groundout in the second and a suicide bunt in the third for a 4-1 cushion.  It then became 7-1 after the three-run fifth before Mason doubled home another run to help jump start a three-run seventh.

Carlee Guyett and Autumn Boland each had three hits to highlight the game at the dish for BVU.  Mason had the two hits and drove in a team-high three runs as the Beavers outhit Hood, 12-6.

Moriah Guyett picked up the win inside the circle by allowing just two runs and striking out four.

In the nightcap, the Beavers held a slim 5-3 lead going into the third inning before they erupted for 12 runs on nine hits to take complete control at 17-3.  Brook Linderman started the inning with a triple down the rightfield line.  She later scored on a Carlee Guyett single to center and later drove in two more with a single.  Keely Bycroft also added a two-run single in the frame while Mason capped the scoring with a three-run blast over the fence in center.

BVU went on to add five more runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.  It now has 80 runs scored on the year and has four games of scoring at least 10.

Mason went 5-for-5 at the plate and set a career-high for hits.  She also drove in six and scored four times.  Linderman and Jeanne Bramhall each had three hits and three RBI while Mckynze Hansen chimed in with three hits and a pair of RBI.  The Beavers finished with 26 hits in the game with seven going for extra bases.

Marissa Promes got the start and went the first two innings and allowed three runs on six hits and struck out two.  Bycroft worked the final three innings, allowing just three hits and striking out two.

Buena Vista improves to 7-1 on the year and looks to keep the hot start going when it plays Case Western University and Dickinson College on Friday morning at 9:00am and 11:00am.
