#2 Wartburg Pulls Away from BVU for 98-62

Box Score

Buena Vista trailed second-ranked Wartburg just 33-29 midway through the second quarter, but the Knights closed the half on a 22-4 run and never looked back en route to a 98-62 victory over the Beavers on Wednesday night in Waverly.

Jasmine Demers led BVU with 18 points on 6-of-21 shooting while Morgan Muhlbauer made 4-of-5 from downtown and scored all 15 of her points in the first half. Claudia Larsen was held to only five points offensively, but came up strong on the defensive end with a game-high 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.  She now has 47 total blocks on the year which moves her into a tie for third on the program's single-season list.  She now trails only Julie Bloyer (50) and Jocleyn Kock (51) for the lead.

McKenna Whitehill chipped in with eight points and Destiny Einerwold turns in a career-high six off the bench in just seven minutes.

Buena Vista was held to 33 percent shooting from the field but did make 9-of-25 from long range (36 percent).  The Knights, however, connected on 49 percent from the field and nailed 13-of-32 from beyond the arc.

Wartburg (16-0, 7-0 IIAC) broke open the game late in the second quarter and took a 55-33 lead into the break.  BVU was then held to only eight points in the third quarter and was never able to mount any kind of second half rally.

BVU did hold a slim 42-41 lead on the boards but the Knights forced 19 turnovers while BVU forced only eight.

Buena Vista has now dropped three straight overall and sits at 8-8 (3-4 IIAC).  The Beavers host Luther College (11-7, 5-2 IIAC) on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
