Beaver Women with Road Win at Grinnell College 67-54

Junior Morgan Muhlbauer matched a carer-high with five three-point buckets and helped lead the way with a game-high 19 points on Tuesday night, as the Buena Vista women's basketball team evened its overall record with a 67-54 road victory at Grinnell College (1-2) inside of Darby Gymnasium.

Muhlbauer finished the game 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and 7-of-14 overall.  She also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists.  Senior Jasmine Demers followed with 17 points and nine boards, while fellow senior Claudia Larsen also finished a rebound shy of a third straight double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and six blocks.  Holly Schneider was also in double figures with 15 points as junior McKenna Whitehill registered three assists and three steals.

Buena Vista shot 38.8 percent from the field and was 9-of-25 from long range (36 percent).  It outrebounded the Pioneers, 46-39, and held them to just 3-of-13 from three-point range.

Senior Jess Denholm made a three in the final seconds of the first quarter to give BVU a 16-11 lead and the Beavers maintained that advantage throughout most of the second period before pulling away late and taking a 35-25 halftime lead.  Schneider scored a layup early in the second half which quickly pushed the lead to 15 before one of Muhlbauer's three's with just over 2:00 left in the quarter gave the Beavers a 52-34 lead.

BVU led by as many as 19 in the final quarter and never let Grinnell get any closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Kayla Morrissey, who came in averaging 33.0ppg, was held to 15 points under her average as she led Grinnell with 18 points and seven rebounds.

The Beavers improve to 2-2 overall and will look to make it two wins in a row when they open the Simpson College Classic on Friday against Saint Benedict in a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
