Box Score Buena Vista led by two after one quarter, but it was the University of Dubuque outscoring the Beavers by 12 points over the second and third, and the Spartans would go on to hand BVU a 73-63 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Jasmine Demers led BVU with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Holly Schneider also scored in double figures with 11. Jordan Tynes six points and hauled in 11 boards, as Sidney Beckman scored nine points and dished out a team-best four assists.
Dubuque scored the first eight points of the game before Jessica Jager ended that run and helped spark a 17-4 charge by BVU to end the opening quarter with a three-pointer of her own four minutes into the contest.
BVU led by four points on multiple occassions in the second quarter before Dubuque used a 9-2 spurt to close the first half and take a 32-29 lead into the half.
A 9-0 run by the Spartans to begin the second half put them up 11 at 40-29, and BVU, which had defeated Dubuque 108-77 in the IIAC opener, just couldn't recover from there. It trailed by as many as 19 in the fourth quarter, and its late run to get within eight at 69-61 was too-little-too-late.
The loss snaps BVU's two-game win streak as the Beavers fall to 10-9 overall (6-4 IIAC). The team will look to bounce back and complete the season sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan when it hosts the Prairie Wolves on Monday night at 6:00pm.
