Riak Scores Twice as Men's Soccer Wins Home Opener, 3-1, over Mt. Marty

Box Score

Mt. Marty took a quick 1-0 lead on Buena Vista Wednesday night inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, but the Beavers came back to tie it at 1-1 heading to the half before a pair of second half goals gave them a 3-1 triumph in the home opener.

The Lancers got a man free down the near side of the field on a lead pass which resulted in their first goal of the year less than five minutes in.

It remained that way until Gum Riak took a pass, made a man miss, and then knocked through a shot at the 32' to square things up.

The Beavers, who held a 9-5, edge in shots during the second half, got the go-ahead goal from senior Willy Salamanca nearing the 68' before Riak added a late insurance goal - his second of the contest - during the 82'.

The two-goal contest is the second in Riak's career.  He did so last year against Iowa Wesleyan on October 7.

Manuel Aguilar made his third straight start and played all but five minutes en route to his first career victory.  He has allowed just two goals over his last two outings, and tonight made three saves.

Buena Vista improves to 1-2 on the year and will now look to even its mark when it hosts Bethany Lutheran on Friday night at 7:00pm.
