Men's Soccer Edged 3-2 at Martin Luther

Box Score

Tui Hunkin and Fabian Salazar each scored a goal while Steve Nyaye dished out a pair of assists, but it wasn't quite enough for the Buena Vista men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon as it fell on the road at Martin Luther College, 3-2.

The Beavers came in looking to bounce back following a tough 1-0 loss at home to 24th-ranked Dubuque on Sunday, but the Knights came out and took a quick 1-0 lead to put BVU in a hole early.

Hunkin, however, registered the tying goal midway through the first half for his second of the year.  Just before the end of the first half, Martin Luther regained the lead in the 42' on a deflection following a save by keeper Matt Tennyson.

The Knights' lead grew to 3-1 early in the second half, and that's how things stood until Salazar started a comeback attempt by the Beavers in the 77' with his second goal of the year.

BVU registered 24 total shots in the contest compared to only 19 by MLC, and held a 13-8 edge in shots-on-goal, but came up just short with two shots-on-goal saved in the final minute.

Martin Luther improved to 5-4 on the year with the win while BVU dipped to 4-6-1.

The Beavers return home and to Iowa Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Wartburg College (5-3-1, 0-1 IIAC) in a match scheduled for 3:30pm.
