Men's Soccer Comes up Short against #24 Dubuque

Box Score

The Buena Vista men's soccer team surrendered an early goal on Sunday against 24th-ranked Dubuque, and that proved to be all the scoring in the match as the Spartans went on to win the Iowa Conference opener for both teams, 1-0.

The Spartans were on the attack for most of the first half, holding an 11-3 edge in total shots, and broke a scoreless match two minutes into play.

From there, BVU, buckled down and regained focus looking to pull even.  The Beavers hung tough, coming close to posting that tying goal multiple times.

Things were much tighter in the second half with Dubuque holding a slim 12-7 advantage in goals as the Beavers upped the pressure.

Gum Riak, Luis Salazar and Willy Salamanca each registered two shots for BVU with Riak and Salamanca recording the only two on-goal.

Senior Matt Tennyson had a stellar game in-goal as he came up with a number of outstanding saves.

Buena Vista is now 4-5-1 overall (0-1 IIAC) and looks to bounce back as it steps out of conference play on Wednesday for a road match at Martin Luther beginning at 4:15pm.
