Box Score Gum Riak put Buena Vista in front 1-0 late in the seventh minute on Sunday afternoon, but Grinnell College went on to score three times in the second half to hang on and defeat the BVU men's soccer team, 3-1.
Riak took the rebound off a previous shot and kicked it past a diving Grinnell keep for his team leading third goal of the year.
That proved to be the only scoring during an opening half that saw just seven combined shots between the two teams.
The Pioneers tied things up eight minutes into the second half on a goal from Artis Curiskis before Curiskis dished out an assit to Nick Brule just five minutes later to give them their first lead. Brule found the net again early in the 67' minute for a key insurance goal.
Grinnell held a narrow 8-6 edge in total shots, as both teams were even with five shots-on-goal.
Manuel Aguilar went the distance in-goal for BVU and came up with a pair of saves.
The loss snaps the Beavers' two-match win streak as they dip to 2-3 overall. They'll look to get back on track Wednesday night when they host Dordt College in a non-conference match scheduled to start at 7:00pm.
