Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 For the first time since 2001, the Buena Vista softball team has reached 20 wins in a season, and the Beavers did it in dramatic fashion by scoring five times in the seventh inning of game one en route to an 8-5 victory. The Duhawks salvaged the split by taking game two, 6-3.
Loras jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second before the Beavers got on the board and took their first lead with three runs in the fifth. Katie Yoder singled home the first run before Cheyanne Boland followed with a two-run double.
The Duhawks came right back with three of their own in the bottom half to get the lead back at 5-3.
Similar to Tuesday night at Simpson, the Beavers put up a crooked number in the final innings, this time scoring five times in the seventh for an 8-5 lead. They got some help from the Duhawks, scoring the first of those runs on a passed ball before later scoring a pair of runs on a fielding error. Boland drove in her third run with an RBI single before Jeanne Bramhall capped the inning with an RBI triple.
Loras then went down in order in its half to complete the game, as BVU hit 20 wins for the first time since going 22-13 back in 2001.
Boland was 3-for-4 at the dish with three RBI while Yoder and Haley Stevens each had two hits.
Jenna Falline lasted just 2.1 innings after allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits. Keely Bycroft came on in relief and worked the final 4.2 innings and was charged with three runs on three hits, while striking out four.
Loras jumped out with two runs in the third inning of game two before adding three more an inning later to lead the Beavers, 5-0.
BVU tried to chip away at that lead by scoring a pair in the fifth to make it 5-2. Bycrot doubled home the team's first run before Marissa Schmidt singled.
Loras (14-18, 2-8) got one of those runs back in the sixth to make it a 6-2 advantage before Boland scored on a passed ball for the final run in the seventh.
Boland added two more hits, including her second double of the day, and also scored both runs. Bycroft also added two hots as did Autumn Boland.
Moriah Guyett was tagged for three runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings before giving way to Falline who worked the final 2.2 innings. She was charged with the final three runs on six hits.
Buena Vista is now 20-15 on the year (7-5 IIAC). Before closing out the conference schedule next Saturday at home against the University of Dubuque, the Beavers will step out of league play for a non-conference road doubleheader at Bethel University (16-14).
