Box Score 2 The Buena Vista softball team looked to hand Gustavus Adolphus its first loss of the year during its opener on Saturday evening inside of the Rochester Dome, but the Beavers came up short in eight innings, falling 6-4. The team did, however, come right back to roll past UW-River Falls, 9-0 (5 inn.).
The Beavers held a 2-0 lead thru four innings against the Gusties after a two-run double off the bat of Autumn Boland, plated Marissa Schmidt and Jeanne Bramhall.
Gustavus Adolphus (4-0) came right back in the fifth with an RBI infield single followed by an unearned run off an error. The Gusties then took their first lead in the sixth before BVU came quickly back in the bottome half with an RBI single from Schmidt that scored Lacey Vokt.
BVU threatened to win the game in the seventh with runners at second and third and two outs, but Bramhall went down swinging to send the game into extra's.
With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, Gustavus scored three times in its half of the eighth to take a 6-3 lead.
Schmidt, who finished 2-for-4 at the dish with two RBI, quickly doubled home Bramhall who was placed on second to start the frame. Keely Bycroft then singled to put runners at the corners, but BVU struck out three times to end the comeback bid, as well as the game.
Bycroft also added two hits for the Beavers, who tallied seven overall.
Jenna Falline went the distance on the mound for BVU, allowing just three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking only one.
The Beavers quickly put that game behind them, as they came right back a short time later and handed UW-River Falls a 9-0 loss in five innings. They scored in all five innings, including a three-run second that gave them a 4-0 lead.
Cheyanne Bolad doubled home a run in the first inning before adding an RBI single during the three-run second. Katie Yoder singled home the first two runs to start the rally.
Boland wasn't done as she singled home two more runs in the third to make it a 6-0 margin. Bycroft and Taylor Draisey tacked on RBI's in the fourth with Bramhall chipping in with the final one in the fifth.
The Beavers out-hit UW-RF, 12-3, in the contest, including four extra-base knocks.
Boland went 4-for-4, including two doubles, and also drove in four, as Yoder and ReAnn Cappel each added two hits. Yoder and Autumn Boland each walked twice and combined to score five of the nine runs.
Moriah Guyett picked up her first win of the year, going the distance and allowing just the three hits while striking out seven.
The loss drops UW-RF to 2-6 overall.
