Box Score 2 The Buena Vista softball team surrendered just one run while picking up two wins on Sunday as the team continued its Spring Break trip down south in Clermont, Fla.
Senior Jenna Falline registered a complete-game shutout in the opener against D'Youville, scattering just five hits and striking out four.
BVU built an early 2-0 lead in the top half of the first thanks to an RBI double from Keely Bycroft and an error by the defense which later plated Bycroft.
Marissa Schmidt added a sacrifice fly in the third to make it a 3-0 advantage before an RBI single from Cheyanne Bold and a run-scoring double by Bycroft pushed the lead to 5-0.
That was more than enough for Falline, who improved to 4-2 on the year.
Bycroft finished 3-for-3 with three doubles, two RBI and a pair of runs scored. She was the only Beaver with multiple hits in the contest, as they tallied seven overall. Katie Yoder added one hit and scored twice with Lacey Vokt coming on to pinch run and scoring the final run.
BVU won consecutive games for the second time this season with a 9-1 (5 inning) victory over Maine-Farmington to close out the day.
The Beavers again jumped on the board early, plating four first-inning runs, and then took control from there. Bycroft had her fourth straight double of the day, driving in the first run of the game. BVU then added three more runs in the third and two more in the fourth to close things out. Autumn Boland came through with her first career triple, scoring one of three Beaver runs in the third.
Moriah Guyett wrapped up her complete-game effort with a 1-2-3 fifth. She allowed just two hits, one walk and struck out six.
