Box Score 2 UW-Stevens Point scored twice in the top of the seventh in the opener to trip up the Beavers, 3-2, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday, before BVU stormed back in the finale to pick up a 9-1 (5 inning) victory. The games were the home opener for the Beavers.
The Pointers broke a scoreless game in the fourth with a single run to take a 1-0 lead, but the advantage was short-lived as Keely Bycroft doubled home Marissa Schmidt to even things up at 1-1.
Cheyanne Boland's RBI on a fielder's choice put BVU in front for the first time in the fifth, and that's the way things stood until the seventh. The Pointers loaded the bases with a two-out walk and then looped a shallow single that scored the eventual game-winning runs.
BVU was held to only three hits in the contest, including doubles by Schmidt and Bycroft.
Jenna Falline went the distance, allowing just two earned runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking only the one.
The Beavers offense then exploded early in game two with five runs in the first inning and two more in the second. Bycroft drove in two more during the opening frame with a two-run single, followed by a Haley Stevens two-run double.
Autumn Boland's two-run single in the second made it a 7-1 contest before Stevens ended things in the fifth with a two-run home run.
Stevens finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored, as Jeanne Bramhall went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Autumn Boland also chipped in with a pair of hits, two RBI and a run scored.
Moriah Guyett picked up the win, allowing just the one run on only three hits, while striking out a season-high seven and issuing just one free pass.
Buena Vista sits at 3-3 and will remain at home for a non-conference doubleheader coming up on Wednesday, March 16, starting at 3:00pm against Northwestern College (IA).
