Dutch Hold off Men's Soccer in Home Finale

Box Score

Willy Salamanca cut the Central College lead to 2-1 midway through the first half, but the Dutch would respond with two unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 Iowa Conference victory on Wednesday night in the home finale for the Beavers.

Salamanca scored for the fourth time this season during the 26' to make it a one-goal game.  The Dutch had built a 2-0 lead with goals in both the 11' and 14', respectively.

Following Salamanca's goal, Central got it right back 10 minutes later to take a 3-1 lead into the half.

Despite being outshot, 11-4, in the second half, the Dutch added an insurance goal to make it a three-goal margin early in the half.

BVU had a chance to make it 3-2 just 30 seconds into the second half but had a penalty kick saved by a diving keeper.

Matt Tennyson went the distance in-goal while playing the final home match of his career.  He finished with six saves.

Buena Vista is now 4-11-1 (0-6 IIAC) and will close out its season with a pair of conference road matches beginning with Coe College this Saturday at 4:30pm.
