Men's Soccer Dealt 7-3 Loss at Loras

Box Score

Willy Salamanca, Gum Riak and Tui Hunkin each scored goals, but the Buena Vista men's soccer team couldn't quite overcome a 5-1 deficit, as Loras College handed the Beavers a 7-3 road loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Duhawks came out strong and scored twice in the first five minutes for a 2-0 lead.  Salamanca cut that margin in half with his second goal of the year.  Loras, however, got that goal right back midway through the period and led 3-1 at the half.

It became a 4-1 lead five minutes into the second half before the Duhawks built the four-goal cushion early in the 52'.

Riak and Hunkin then scored back-to-back goals only two minutes apart to get the Beavers back into the contest during the 57' but Loras responded less than a minute later to make it 6-3 before a late insurance goal in the 67'.

Riak's goal was his team-leading seventh of the year while Hunkin scored for the third time.

Loras held a convincing 41-10 advantage in shots and a 12-6 margin in shots-on-goal.

Matt Tennyson played the first 45 minutes in-goal with Manuel Garcia closing things out in the second half.

Buena Vista is now 4-10-1 overall (0-5 IIAC) and will get set to play its final home match of the year on Wednesday night against Central College at 6:00pm.
