Box Score Senior Lexi Fisher scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds while fellow seniors Becca Pennington and Jasmyn Flynn-Graves followed with 12 points each, and the trio helped lead the Buena Vista women's basketball team to a key 59-55 Iowa Conference road victory at Wartburg College on Saturday.
Fisher made 5-of-13 attempts from the field, including one three pointer, which moved her within three of becoming only the second player in program history with 200 career made three-point buckets. Five of her seven boards were on the offensive end.
Pennington and Flynn-Graves each made four field goals while both were a perfect 3-for-3 at the free-throw line. BVU was 18-of-21 from the charity stripe and made one fewer free-throws than field goals in the contest.
Sidney Beckman made 5-of-6 free-throw attempts to lead BVU with seven points off the bench.
Senior Lacey Vokt was held to only one point, but did come up with a team leading four assists and matched both Fisher and Jordan Tynes with seven boards.
As a unit, BVU shot 38 percent from the field, despite making only 3-of-16 from downtown, and was able to overcome an uncharachteristic 22 turnovers.
The Knights led by four after one quarter before BVU outscored them 19-11 over the next 10 minutes to take a 28-24 lead into the half. The Beavers, who are now 8-1 when leading at the break this season, hung on in the end of what was a back-and-forth game from the start.
Neither team led by more than six points in the game, and there were four ties and seven lead changes.
Bobbie Burrows and Miranda Murphy paced Wartburg with 11 points each, while Burrows also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
BVU held the Knights (13-6, 3-5 IIAC) to only 27 percent shooting in the contest.
The Beavers have now won four of five overall, and completed their first season sweep of Wartburg since 2007-08. BVU is now 11-8 (5-3 IIAC) on the year and will host the University of Dubuque on Wednesday night at 6:00pm. BVU topped the Spartans 83-66 earlier this season.
