Box Score The Buena Vista men's soccer team was faced with the challenge of battling darkness for the second time in two weeks, but this time around the match went just long enough before being called, and the Beavers came up on the short end of a 4-0 contest at Grinnell on Wednesday.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net over the first 45 minutes and the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0. The Pioneers found their groove midway through the second half, scoring four times over a five minute span to build enough of a cushion before the match was eventually halted with just over 17' left on the clock.
Grinnell held a 16-2 advantage on total shots and broke a scoreless match early in the 62'. The Pionners came right back just over a minute later to make it 2-0 before adding the third goal 20 seconds after that. The final goal would come early in the 68'. A match must reach at least 70' to be considered official.
Josh Hoffman, a Grinnell, Iowa native, had the team's only shot-on-goal for BVU with Tyler Smaha adding the only other shot.
Jake Hutto went the distance in-goal, allowing four goals and posting five saves in defeat.
Buena Vista will be back in action on Friday night as it plays its home opener under the lights against Morningside College beginning at 8:00pm.
