Softball has Season End with 6-2 Loss by Kohawks in IIAC Tournament

Box Score

The Buena Vista softball team rallied late, but the deficit was too much to overcome, and the Beavers saw their first season under new head coach Mandie Berneking come to an end with a 6-2 loss to Coe College to open the Iowa Conference Tournament.

It was a pitcher's duel until the fourth-seed Kohawks broke a scoreless game with a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.  BVU was held to just four hits through the first five innings, and Coe began to heat up its bats with three more runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to build a six-run cushion.

Jeanne Bramhall singled home a run in the seventh to put BVU on the board before the second run scored on a fielder's choice, but that was all the Beavers could pull across.

Coe held a 13-5 advantage in the hit column and would advance on to face top-seed Luther on Saturday.

Katie Yoder went 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace the offense for BVU with pinch runner Cortney Weaver scoring the second.

Jenna Falline went 4.2 innings on the mound and would suffer the loss to finish 7-9 on the year.  She allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out four.  Moriah Guyett came on in relief to pitch the final 1.1 innings and surrendered a pair of unearned runs on four hits while striking out two.

Buena Vista concludes the year at 18-20-1 overall with the win total sitting as the higest single-season total since the program went 22-13 back in 2001.  The game was also the final one in the careers of three seniors - Lesa Turnquist, Jordon Pilcher and Stephanie Hayden.
