Baseball Swept on the Road by Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Buena Vista baseball team began its four-game weekend road series at Central College on Friday afternoon, and the 21st-ranked Beavers came up on the short end of both games, falling 4-2 and 7-0.

Central scored twice in the third and added two more in the fourth on a two-run homer to take a 4-0 lead.

Buena Vista cut the deficit in half in the sixth when it got an RBI single from Bryce Wessels and a run-scoring double from Bennett Mann.  The comeback, however, ended there as the Beavers came up two runs short.

Mann was the lone player to finish with the multiple hits.  Neil Marshall joined Mann as the only ones with an extra-base hit.

Justin Lange (4-2) suffered his second straight loss despite going the distance for the Beavers.  He was charged with four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking two over 106 total pitches.

The bats were again kept in check in the nightcap, as the team was held to just seven base knocks.

Central (10-13, 6-6 IIAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one inning and essentially broke the game open with a four-run third.

Tanner Truesdell went 3-for-4 with a double while Eric Gurbacki finished 2-for-4.

Jacob Hadaway got the start and pitched just 2.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits.  Wes Onken worked the final 5.2 innings and was charged with two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out three.

Buena Vista now sits at 16-7 overall (6-6 IIAC) and will look to avoid losing its first Iowa Confernece series since 2013 when it wraps up the series with two more games on Saturday starting at 1:00pm.
