Softball Splits DH against Hamline inside of Rosemount Dome

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Buena Vista softball team got head coach Mandie Berneking her first career coaching victory as they split a doubleheader inside of the Rosemount Dome on Saturday against Hamline University.

BVU rallied late in the opener to pick up a thrilling 3-2 decision over a Pipers team that went 18-17-1 a season ago.  The Beavers, trailing 2-1, scored single runs in the sixth and seventh inning to go in front 3-2.  Jeanne Bramhall drove in her first run of the year with a ground-rule double in the sixth.  Senior Stephanie Hayed got the seventh-inning rally started with a one-out double and would advance to third on a wild pitch.  She then reached home safely on a double-steal to batters later for the go-around run.

Junior pitcher Jenna Falline then worked around a one-out single in the seventh for the complete-game victory.

Marissa Schmidt singled in the first run of the game for the Beavers, scoring Lesa Turnquist in the third.

Bramhall went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead BVU which edged Hamline in hits, 9-8.  Hayden, along with Jordon Pilcher and Cortney Weaver each stole a base for BVU.

Falline scattered the eight hits, allowing just one earned run while striking out three and not issuing a walk.

Hamline (1-1) then out-hit the Beavers, 10-3, in game two as the Pipers built a 6-0 lead with two runs in third and single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh.  Buena Vista got on the board in the seventh with a pair of runs, but it was too-little-too-late.

Schmidt and Haley Stevens each doubled in the contest for BVU, while Weaver added the final base knock.

Keely Bycroft got the start in the circle and suffered the loss, going six innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits, while striking out four.

Buena Vista (1-3) will look to even its record on the year when it closes its weekend of games inside of the Rosemount Dome with a doubleheader on Sunday against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  First pitch of game one is slated for
