Women's Basketball Faces League-Leading Dubuque

Box Score

The Buena Vista women's basketball team will wrap up the season with a pair of road games this week, starting tonight with a match-up at league-leading Dubuque in a 6:00pm tip-off inside of the Stoltz Sports Center.

Both teams will take the court looking to bounce back after defeats on Saturday.  The Beavers (8-15, 3-9 IIAC) dropped a 77-53 home contest to Simspon College on Senior Day, while the Spartans dropped back into a first place tie with Luther after suffering a 63-57 setback on the road to Wartburg.

Despite the loss, Dubuque will take on the Beavers having won seven of its last nine games overall.  The is also looking to avoid consecutive home losses for the first time this season after being dealt a 70-56 loss to visiting Coe back on February 7.

A big key to the game will be which team can buckle down on the defensive end.  The Spartans come in ranked sixth during Iowa Conference play, allowing 65.4 points per contest while BVU is eighth (75.3ppg).  Dubuque has been able to overcome some of that by sitting second in scoring offense at 69.2ppg.

Both teams have a pair of individuals ranked in the top-15 of the conference in scoring.  Dubuque's Jenna Kotas is the league-leader in that department, turning in 17.3ppg and also sitting second in rebouning at 8.2 per outing.

For the Beavers, juniors Lexi Fisher and Jasmyn Flynn-Graves are each tied for 14th in scoring (10.6ppg) with Flynn also ninth in field goal percentage (45.1 percent).

Senior Shelby Wiederhoeft, who registered her 1,000th career point last week, is second in the IIAC in field goal percentage (57.8 percent) with Dubuque's Emily Brinker ranking fourth at 52.5 percent.  The two teams dish out the ball well, with both Dubuque's Jessica Goetz and BVU's Becca Pennington tied for fourth in assists (3.08apg).

The two teams battled it out inside of Siebens Fieldhouse back in early January with the Spartans prevailing in overtime, 82-73.  Since the start of 2011-12, the Beavers have topped Dubuque only once.  Three of the last four games played in Dubuque have been decided by 10 points or less.
