Box Score The Buena Vista football allowed more than 200 yards of total offense in the first quarter and fell behind 21-0 after one period, and the Beavers couldn't overcome the deficit on the road at No. 21 Wartburg College during a 55-0 loss to the Knights.
Wartburg went 97 yards in 10 plays on its first drive of the game after Tyler Stolen's punt on the game's first drive landed at the Knights' three-yard line. Wartburg went on to score touchdowns on its first five drives and built a 35-0 halftime lead.
Buena Vista had its best scoring chances in the second quarter, but Stolen had a 45-yard field goal attempt go wide right just minutes into the frame before the team turned it over on downs late in the half which eventually led to Warturg's final score of the half.
The Knights then came out and went 65 yards in six plays on the first drive of the second half, as quarterback Logan Schroeder completed all five pass attempts on the drive for 64 yards.
Buena Vista was in Wartburg territory on four of its five second half possessions, including twice inside the 20, but turned it over on downs three times and was intercepted once.
Wartburg (7-1, 4-1 IIAC) outgained the Beavers in the contest 573-317 with 431 of those yards coming through the air.
Tory Beger completed 18-of-31 pass attempts for BVU for 213 yards, but was intercepted twice. Ben Sietz hauled in a team-high 10 catches for 123 yards with TJ Lint right behind with six catches and 88 yards.
Cody Mowry led the Beaver rushing attack with 39 yards on 13 carries.
Stolen was solid in the punting game, finishing with a 41.2 average on four punts, including a long of 48 and one inside the 20.
Zach Mueggenberg led BVU with 13 total tackles with Kyle Arnold right behind at 12. Nick Amundson intercepted the team's only pass on the day and also had one pass break-up.
Buena Vista has now lost five straight games and sits at 1-7 overall (0-5 IIAC). The team remains on the road next Saturday for a 1:00pm kick-off at Central College (5-3, 3-2 IIAC).
