Box Score The Buena Vista men's soccer team went on the road for the first time Thursday night and kept itself unbeaten with a thrilling 2-1 victory at Martin Luther College (0-2-0).
The Knights grabbed the early lead with a breakaway goal late in the 29. BVU, however, responded right back with a goal from Rolando Zuniga off a turnover and the score remained that way into halftime.
Nearly five minutes into the second half, senior Steve Gutschenritter scored his first goal in nearly two years off a pass from Luis Salazar from the top of the box, and the Beavers led for the first time in the match, 2-1.
BVU held the Knights to only six shots-on-goal in the contest, while outshooting them, 24-12, overall.
Gutschenritter led the way with three shots-on-goal while Kwame Antwi and Tyler Smaha each turned in two.
Senior Jordan Balster picked up his second win in-goal this season, going the distance and allowing just one goal and picking up five saves.
Buena Vista improves to 2-0-1 on the year and will look to stay unbeaten when it returns to action on Wednesday, September 10 for a non-conference home match against Nebraska Wesleyan starting at 8:00am.
