Box Score Luis Salazar and Steve Gutschenritter each turned in a second-half goal for the Buena Vista men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon, as the Beavers went on the road to shutout Cornell College, 2-0.
The teams combined for only four shots in the first half before the Beavers took control in the second half. Salazar broke a scoreless match with his first goal of the year nearly eight minutes into the second half off an assist from Tyler Smaha.
Gutschenritter later added an insurance goal with his second of the year nearly 14 minutes later, as BVU outshot the Rams, 12-1 over the final 45 minutes.
Salazar led the way with three shots, including two on-goal, as Gutschenritter was one of four players with two shots.
It's the team's second shutout of the year, and the Beaver got a combined effort in-goal from Jordan Balster and Matt Tennyson, respectively. Balster got the start and earned the win, going 76 minutes and posting one save. Tennyson went the final 14 minutes and did not face a single shot.
Buena Vista improves to 3-1-1 overall and will now travel to Presentation College on September 20 for a 1:00pm non-conference contest.
