Softball Falls to #9 Coe College on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Coe College used the long ball to its advantage in both games of Saturday's doubleheader, as the Kohawks swept past the Buena Vista softball team by scores of 7-3 and 7-0.

The Kohawks scored runs in each of the first five innings of game one and built a 7-0 lead.  Brittney Kubik blasted a two-run home run in the home half of the fourth inning to cut the Beaver deficit to 6-2.

Coe singled home a run in the fifth to push the margin up to five at 7-2 before Brooke Berkey doubled home Stephanie Hayden in the bottom half for the game's final score.

Hayden and Kubik each tallied two hits for BVU which had six total in the contest.

Jenna Falline suffered the loss, going the distance and scattering 13 hits, walking two and striking out three.

It was all Kohawks in the nightcap, as they belted three home runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead.  That's the way the score stood until a two-home run home and RBI double in the fifth made it 7-0.

That was all Coe starter Arran Weeces needed, as she sat down all 21 Beavers in succession for the perfect game.

BVU is now 13-15 overall (5-5 IIAC) and will look to finish the regular season on a strong note next week by traveling to Simpson College (21-13, 6-4 IIAC) on Tuesday afternoon before hosting #8 Luther College (23-6, 6-4 IIAC) on Saturday.
