Box Score 2 The Buena Vista baseball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end as it began Iowa Conference play with a 1-0 loss to Luther College on Friday afternoon, but the Beavers did bounce back with a 6-3 triumph in game two to earn the doubleheader split.
The Norse scored the game's only run off starter Jon Ringblom in the second inning on the strength of a lead-off triple. BVU threatened in its final chance in the top of the seventh, but came up empty, as the team saw its nine-game win streak come to an end.
Neither team had many scoring opportunities in the contest as both pitchers kept the offenses in check with the two teams combining for just seven hits.
Ringblom allowed just five hits and struck out seven without walking a batter.
After falling behind 2-0 in game two, the Beavers were finally able to push across their first runs of the day in the second. BVU scored three times and went in front for the first time at 3-2.
The Norse came back to tie things up at 3-3 in the bottom half, as Cam Beatty came on in relief of Jake Bjorkgren to limit the damage and eventually pick up his first win of the year.
The game remained even until the sixth when BVU took advantage of some defensive miscues by the Norse to score three times and build a 6-3 lead.
Lucas Hadaway, who came on to pitch following a lead-off walk in the sixth, shut the Norse down the rest of the way to help preserve the three-run victory. He earned his second save of the year, while pitching the final four innings, allowing just one hit, walking one and striking out six.
Buena Vista is now 12-2 overall (1-1 IIAC) and will look to win the series on Saturday when the two teams face each other for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00am CT.
