Box Score 2 The Buena Vista softball team wrapped up its spring break trip on Friday afternoon with wins against Thomas (ME), 11-3 (6 inn.) and Colby (5-0). The team finished the 10-game trip with six wins.
In the opener, the Beavers scored runs in five of the six innings, including five in the top of the six to help buid an eight-run lead.
Pilcher picked up a quick RBI in the first for a 1-0 lead. BVU added two more runs in the second for a 3-0 lead before Thomas got one back in the bottom half.
Stephanie Hayden singled home a run in the fourth while another scored on a passed ball and the Beavers took a 5-1 lead. Another run in the fifth made it 6-1, and after Thomas pulled back within 6-3, BVU put the game away in the sixth.
Hayden finished 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Sam Engleman followed with two hits, to go along with an RBI and two runs scored.
Falline earned the complete-game win for the Beavers, as she scattered seven hits and struck out one.
Hayden added three more hits against Colby with Cheyanne Boland picking up two hits and drving in one.
BVU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and would go on to add single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
Kubik surrendered seven hits in her complete-game effort as Buena Vista improves to 8-10 overall.
The Beavers will now return back home and begin Iowa Conference play on Tuesday afternoon against the University of Dubuque. Game one of the doubleheader will start at 3:00pm.
