Box Score Kennedy Drey had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Cole Darrow also added 12 points and five boards to help lead Buena Vista, but it was UW-Platteville using a late second half surge to break the game open en route to a 70-55 victory on Saturday night at Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers opened up an early 25-8 lead before the Beavers slowly chipped away and pulled back within 31-25 at the break.
It was still a five-point game six minutes into the second half before the Pioneers strung together nine straight points to build a 49-35 lead with 12:41 left in regulation.
BVU tried to keep things close as Drey hit a three-point bucket to get BVU back as close as 61-51 with 5:45 left to play, but that was about as close as the team could get down the stretch. The Pioneer lead grew back to 15 (67-52) with under three minutes on the clock, and they would go on to win by that same margin.
Senior Nick Wuebker chipped in with eight points and six rebounds off the bench for BVU, while fellow senior Alex Savage dished out five assists.
Buena Vista shot 42 percent overall from the field, and was held to only 3-of-17 from downtown. It was the first time in over 30 games that BVU had failed to score at least 60 points in a contest.
Boston Johnson led UW-Platteville (4-2) with 19 points and five assists.
The Beavers are now 3-3 overall and will travel to Martin Luther College on Tuesday night, December 2, for a 7:30pm non-conference tip-off with the Knights.
