Big Second Half Run by Dubuque Hurts Beavers in 91-64 Loss

Box Score

The Buena Vista women's basketball team cut its deficit to nine early in the second half, but it was the University of Dubuque that used a key 19-9 run midway through the second half to break the game open en route to a 91-65 Iowa Conference victory over the Beavers on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Lexi Fisher turned in a team-high 16 points for BVU with senior Malarie Gilley right behind with 15 points and six rebounds.  Susan Kies added 13 points, including 5-of-6 at the free-throw line.  Freshman Sidney Beckman came off the bench and was also in double figures with 11.

As a team, BVU shot just 29 percent overall, including 3-of-20 from long range.

A three-pointer by Beckman got BVU within 57-46 with 15:00 minutes left to play, but a 14-5 run by Dubuque over the next five minutes made it a 71-50 game.

From there, the Spartans were able to maintain that lead and led by as many as 28 points down the stretch.

Buena Vista is now 6-9 overall (0-4 IIAC) and will return home next week for a pair of contest beginning with a 6:00pm tip-off on Wednesday night against Wartburg College.
