Box Score The Buena Vista men's soccer team turned in a strong offensive performance on Wednesday night against visiting Cornell College, out-shooting the Rams, 31-3, and scoring multiple goals in each half en route to a 5-1 non-conference victory.
Senior Tyler Lafferty got the scoring started for BVU off an assit from Juan Rosales late in the 37th minute. Cornell evened things up just four minutes later on an own goal, but BVU bounced right back one minute later with a goal from Luis Salazar to make it a 2-1 lead at the half.
Carlos Silva made it a two-goal advantage just minutes into the second half before Rolando Zuniga put the match out of reach with a pair of goals late in the half.
BVU held the Rams (2-6) without a single shot in the opening half and out-shot them 19-3 in the seocnd half, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on-goal.
Junior Joey Stivers led all players with seven shots, including five on-goal. Zuniga and Lafferty each followed with four, including three on-goal.
Freshman Matt Tennyson got the win in-goal, going the distance and seeing limited action with only two second half saves.
BVU improves to 3-5 on the year and will look to make it to straight wins when it begins the IIAC schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 5:00pm road contest at Luther College.
