Volleyball Comeback Falls Short in 3-1 Loss at William Penn

The Buena Vista volleyball team fell behind 2-0 at William Penn before bouncing back with a 25-21 win in the third set, but it was the Statesmen holding on for the thrilling 26-24 triumph in the fourth to take the match, 3-1.

The two teams battled throughout the opening set before William Penn pulled away late and hung on for the 28-26 win.  It was all Statesmen in the second as they pushed the margin to 2-0 with the 25-12 victory.

BVU forced a fourth set by hanging tough in the third set for a 25-21 win.

Freshman Maddie Bardole set a new career-high, finishing with 19 kills with senior Chelsea Clayton next with 15.  Overall, BVU was held under .200 in overall percentage for only the second time this year.

Jordan Leehy dished out 47 assists and also recorded a team-high five ace serves.

Defensively, it was Bardole tallying a team-leading 13 digs, to go along with a pair of assisted blocks.  Taylor Salisbury added 12 digs, as Clayton and Shelby Wiederhoeft chimed in with four total blocks.

Buena Vista is now 6-2 on the year and has the weekend off.  It will return to the court next Wednesday night, September 18, and travel to Simpson College for its Iowa Conference opener against the Storm.
