Colt Slack is entering his fifth season as the head coach of the Beaver Track & Field/Cross Country programs and his sixth season with each program overall (he was an assistant coach during the 2015-2016 season).

During his tenure as head coach, Slack has coached six national track and field qualifiers and 14 All-Region performers, including five over the last two seasons.  There are currently 15 different school records (indoor and outdoor combined) that have been set under his guidance with a few being broken multiple times.  Several student-athletes have been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

During his first year as head coach in 2016, BVU captured 11 outdoor and indoor all-conference track & field performances, including one conference indoor champion.  He also had one individual earn indoor and outdoor All-Region accolades and four student-athletes earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual honors.  His women's cross country and track & field teams were among those to receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors during the 2016-2017 season.

In 2019, he coached the women's cross country team to one of its highest overall team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships in program history.  With that came its first-ever All-Region performer.

Slack came to BVU after having served as an assistant track and field coach at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind.  (2014-15).  During his tenure there, he coached three school-record holders - men's 200 and 400 meter dashes, as well as the women's 4x400 meter relay.

Prior to that, he began his coaching career at the high school level with stints at Plainfield High School (Ind.) in 2013-14 as well as Terre Haute South Vigo High School in 2011-12.  During both stops, he helped coach state qualifiers, including a runner-up in 2014 (4x100 relay in 41.68).

Slack was a stand-out track and field athlete himself at Indiana State University from 2008-2010.  He earned a pair of all-conference accolades as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team where it currently ranks third on the top-10 list.  In addition, he ranks fifth in the 4x200 and seventh in the 500 meter dash.

Slack graduated with an Exercise Science degree (Physical Education-Exercise Science) in May of 2012 and was listed on the Dean's List multiple times.
