About Austin: Is the son of Mike Gibbs and Kathy Pinkerton...has one brother, Shane, as well as three sisters, Sally, Rowan and Brenna.
High School Highlights: He earned three varsity letters for the Toreadors, while being named First Team All-District and being recognized on the Academic All-State team. In addition, he was a three-year letterwinner in track and a two-year state qualifier. He also lettered once in baseball. Aside from athletics, he was his senior class Valedictorian, on the Scholastic Honor Society, received the Governor''s Scholar Award and was an Academic All-State selection in football.
College Highlights:
2014: Austin had a career year to wrap up his collegiate career, tallying a team-leading 78 total tackles, including a team-best 46 solo stops. In addition, he also forced two fumbles and had a team-high eight pass breakups. He had four games with at least 10 tackles, including a career-high 15 against Concordia-Moorhead. He ended his career with a career-best eight solo stops in the season final at Coe where he also registered his only tackle for a loss on the year.
2013: Finished his junior season with 23 tackles while seeing time at both defensive back and also on special teams. He posted five stops in consecutive weeks against Concordia-Moorhead and Bethel and had a pass break-up late in the year against Loras. Following the year, he earned a spot on the Academic All-IIAC Team for the second straight year.
2012: He posted a career-best 10 tackles for the year and also chalked up one of the team''s seven fumble recoveries. Following the year, he was named to the Academic All-IIAC Team in his first year of eligibility.
2011: Played primarily as a member of the junior varsity team as a freshman.
