WAVERLY, Iowa (Oct. 13, 2026) - Sophomore
Jacob Freund scored his third goal of the season on Tuesday night as the Buena Vista men's soccer team traveled to Wartburg College, but the Knights would follow up with a late first half goal to hand the Beavers a tough 2-1 setback.
Wartburg jumped out to an early 1-0 lead less than eight minutes into the match and continued to lead by that same score until Freund took a pass from
Jameson Breitzman and pulled the Beavers even midway through the half. That's how things stood until the final five minutes of the half when the Knights regained the lead during the 41' and led 2-1 at the break.
The Knights finished the contest with a 31-5 margin in total shots but the Beavers battled defensively and held the Knights (7-2-3, 3-0 A-R-C) to only the two goals. All but two of the team's six setbacks this year have come by one goal.
Freund finished with a team-leading two shot attempts on the night (both on-goal).
Brayden Schwinck chipped in with the final shot-on-goal. Junior
Alexis Sanabia helped keep BVU in the match throughout by making 11 saves. It marks his second straight double-digit save mark and the third time this season.
Buena Vista moves to 3-6-3 on the year and 0-3 in A-R-C matches. The team returns home on Saturday, Oct.17, to host Loras College on Family Weekend at 7:30 p.m.
