No. 21 Central Softball Sweeps DH over Beavers

Written by Colton O'Hern

Pella, Iowa (Apr. 8, 2025) - The Buena Vista softball team was on the road Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader against #21-ranked Central College Dutch in American Rivers Conference play. The Beavers, however, took two tough losses on the night as they were swept by scores of 14-0 and 9-1 - both ending in five innings.

The Beavers, unfortunately, couldn't keep up the momentum after yesterday's big wins against Martin Luther College. BVU took a tough loss in the first game, as the team was unfortunately not able to get a hit in the game. Freshman Jordan Fabirkiewicz was able to get on base via a walk, but was the sole Beaver to do so. The Dutch were able to score 14 runs and stole six bases while securing the game-one win.

For the Beavers, sophomore Kali Irlmeier (2-4) got the start inside the circle for game one. Irlmeier pitched for three innings before being subbed out, allowing 10 hits, 11 runs, five walks, and two strikeouts.

The Beavers were down 7-0 going into the fifth inning before they broke through for their first run of the day. Senior Madalyn Elwood hit a double into center field allowing freshman Bradi Krager to get the sole score of the night.

Junior Grace Fuhrman got the pitching start for the Beavers in game two. Fuhrman pitched for 2.1 innings allowing six hits, five runs, five walks, and one strikeout. As a team, BVU had five hits - Elwood (2), senior Paige Druskis (1), Fabirkiewicz (1), and sophomore Jillian Garcia (1). Elwood had the double and Krager added a stolen base.

Buena Vista is now at 7-15 (0-4 A-R-C) after the tough doubleheader conference road loss. The team will be back in action on Saturday, April 12th at 1 pm. They will be back at home in the conference doubleheader against the Simpson College Storm (21-3, 2-2 A-R-C).
