DECORAH, Iowa (Apr. 26, 2025) - For the final time this season the Buena Vista softball team was back on the road on Saturday for an American Rivers Conference doubleheader at Luther College but the Norse would hand the Beavers a pair of tough losses on the day by scores of 6-0 and 8-0 (6 inn.).
Defensive miscues hindered the Beavers in the opener, as five of the six runs scored by the Norse were unearned. Luther scored twice in the second inning and essentially never looked back. It went on to tack on two more runs in both the third and sixth innings and out out-hit the Beavers, 8-2.
Madalyn Elwood doubled for her only hit and the team's only extra-base hit in the game. Riley Garner notched the team's only other hit. She also went the distance inside the circle and suffered the loss despite allowing only the one earned run. She did not issue a walk and struck out a pair while the Norse only had two extra-base hits.

Paige Druskis singled to begin game two then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Luther, however, got out of the early jam with back-to-back strikeouts and a flyout, and then came back in the bottom half by scoring two runs and leaving the bases loaded.
The Beavers had at least one runner reach base in each of their first five innings but couldn't push across a run and was held to only three hits. Luther scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth while ending the game in six innings with single runs in both the fifth and sixth.
Druskis finished 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases with Elwood posting the other hit.
Kali Irlmeier suffered the loss for BVU and is now 2-7 on the year. She was charged with four runs (three earned) and three hits while walking five. The Beavers used four different pitchers in the game and walked 11 batters.
Buena Vista is 7-25 overall (0-14 A-R-C) and wraps up the season on Friday, May 1, hosting Loras College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
