Beavers Swept by #18 Dutch

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Apr. 25, 2024) - The Buena Vista University softball team hosted #18 Central College for an American Rivers Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, but it was the Dutch taking both games from the Beavers by scores of 12-0 (5 inn.) and 15-1.

Central started fast in the opener by scoring in each of the first four inning to take control. The Dutch plated three runs in both the first and third, one in the second and closed the door with five in the fourth. They put the pressure on BVU throughout with 12 hits (all singles) and nine stolen bases.

BVU, meanwhile, was held to only two base knocks, including a double from Maddy Elwood and a single from Nikki Griggs.

Keirsten Trayte suffered the loss for BVU inside the circle after being tagged for seven runs (only three earned) and six hits over 2.2 innings.

A two-run inside the park home run in the second inning of game two gave Central a 2-0 lead, and that's how things stood until the Dutch (26-7, 11-1 A-R-C) exploded for five runs in the fourth and eight in the seventh. Only two of their 16 hits went for extra-bases and they added nine more stolen bases.

Buena Vista plated its lone run of the day when Claire Woodworth blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Kali Irlmeier got the start and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) and eight hits. The Beavers used four pitchers overall.

Buena Vista (7-26, 0-14 A-R-C) wraps up its season on Sunday, Apr. 28, by hosting the University of Dubuque in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
