DUBUQUE, Iowa (Apr. 13, 2024) - The Buena Vista University softball team was back on the diamond Saturday for an American Rivers Conference doubleheader at Loras College, but the Duhawks edged the Beavers in both games by scores of 5-3 and 4-1.
A five-run third inning of game one proved to be the difference maker for Loras, as it was aided by a pair of sac flies and a 2-run home run to cap the inning.
Buena Vista clawed its way back during the middle innings with an RBI single in the fourth from Amanda Franke followed by a 2-run home run in the fifth off the bat of Maddy Elwood, her second home run of the year. The Beavers also got singles in the game from Paige Druskis and Nikki Griggs.
Kali Irlmeier pitched 2.2 innings and was charged with all five runs while suffering the loss. Kenize Dumbaugh entered in relief and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings.
