PREVIEW: Softball Opens A-R-C Play Friday at Luther

Storm Lake, Iowa (April 6, 2023) The Buena Vista softball team will hit the road this weekend for their first conference double header of the year and their first games in nearly a month, as they travel to Luther College.

About Luther  

The Norse have had a great first half of the year as they have won 19 of their first 22 games coming into the first weekend of conference play. Offensively as a team, they are hitting .327 with 197 hits and 13 homeruns and 46 doubles. Leading the high-powered offense is junior Abby Spore who is hitting an impressive .500 with 36 hits, with 10 of them being doubles. Another key piece to the offense is senior Sydney Schultz, who is batting .408 thus far this year with 29 hits and five of those being doubles. The Norse have five players in the starting nine that are hitting above .300. The pitching staff holds a 1.53 ERA with a combined 19-3 record in the circle. They are led with fifth year Kendra Cooper, who has pitched 71 innings with a 1.14 ERA while striking out 89 on the year. Senior Sam Thompson has pitched 38.1 innings on the year with a 2.01 ERA and holds a 6-1 record.

About Buena Vista  

The Beaver softball team hasn't played a game since their spring break trip to California due to harsh weather in the area, causing their games to be cancelled or postponed. The team is looking forward to getting conference play under way this Friday at Luther. Offensively as a team, the Beavers are hitting .234 with 110 hits and 14 doubles. Leading the offensive attack is junior, Jamie Wendt, who is batting .327 on the year, with 18 hits and four stolen bases. Also contributing to the offense is junior Nattie Murillo, who is hitting .293 with 17 hits and the team's only homerun. The pitching staff holds a 5.17 ERA with a 4-14 record on the year. Leading the way is junior Kennedi Claycomb who has pitched 36.2 innings, with a 4.39 ERA while striking out 18 on the year. Freshman Cyrah Rasmussen has pitched 27 innings, with a 4.41 ERA and holds a 1-1 record.
