No. 20 Central Sweeps Softball DH on Tuesday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 25, 2023) - The Buena Vista softball team was back on the road Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader at No. 20 Central College, but the Dutch held off the Beavers, 6-5, in the finale after taking game one, 9-0, in five innings.

Central capitalized on four BVU errors and five walks in the opener, using a five-run third inning to break open a 1-0 contest. The Dutch then followed with three more runs in the fourth to make it 9-0, as the Beavers stranded a pair of runners in the fifth to end the game.

Four different players singled in the contest for BVU as the Beavers totaled four hits. Central had eight hits and was led by Emma Jensen, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Cyrah Rasmussen took the loss after being charged with all nine runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings. She also walked five and hit one batter.

Rylee Cain doubled home a run before Nattie Murillo followed with a sacrifice fly as the Beavers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Central, however, responded in the bottom half with two runs of its own before going in front, 4-2, with two more in the second. Maddy Elwood made it 4-3 in the fourth inning with an RBI double that scored Amanda Franke. Franke then turned around in the sixth inning and launched a 2-run home run that made it a one-run game.

The Beavers tried to rally in the seventh, getting a leadoff walk, but the Dutch (27-5, 8-2 A-R-C) forced them into a double play one batter later.

Franke finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to help lead the way as BVU finished with five hits.

Emma LaFave pitched four innings and was charged with all six runs on five hits to suffer the loss. Kennedi Claycomb entered in relief and pitched the final two innings.

Buena Vista is now 5-25 overall (1-11 A-R-C). The Beavers will return home for a Saturday doubleheader against Wartburg College to wrap up their home schedule. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
