Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DUBUQUE, Iowa (April 23, 2023) - After facing the University of Dubuque in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Buena Vista softball team traveled across town to play a twinbill at Loras College on Sunday in games that were originally scheduled to be played in Storm Lake. The Duhawks would hand the Beavers a pair of 6-2 setbacks on the day.

The Duhawks hit a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning of game one to post the early lead but BVU came right back in the bottom half of the frame to pull even at 2-2. Nikki Griggs was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Amanda Franke was credited with an RBI later in the inning.

Loras went back in front in the second with a solo home run and a run-scoring double before tacking on single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. 

Nattie Murillo went 3-for-4 while Griggs was 2-for-2. As a team, the Beavers tallied seven hits (all singles). Cyrah Rasmussen suffered the loss inside the circle, allowing four runs and four hits over 1.2 innings. Emma LaFave pitched the final 5.1 innings, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out three.

Maddy Elwood doubled home the first run of game two in the bottom of the second and that's how things stood until the Duhawks broke the game open with a 6-run fourth inning. Griggs connected for a solo home run in the seventh for BVU, but it came too-little-too-late.

Griggs tallied two more hits to help lead the Beavers while Rylee Cain also added two. Kennedi Claycomb was tagged for six runs (four earned) and six hits over 3.1 innings while suffering the loss.

Buena Vista is now 5-23 on the year (1-9 A-R-C). The Beavers remain on the road to play a doubleheader at Central College on April 25. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
