Preview: BVU Softball vs Simpson, Dubuque, and Loras

STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 19, 2023) - The Buena Vista softball team (4-18, 0-4 A-R-C) is set to play three double headers this week, starting at home against Simpson College on Wednesday April 19. The first game is set to start at 2:00 p.m. The Beavers then travel to the University of Dubuque on Saturday April 22 before wrapping up the week on Sunday April 23 against Loras College. That doubleheader has been moved from Storm Lake to Dubuque and will begin at 1 p.m.
 
Jamie Wendt leads the Beavers with a .328 batting average and most hits with 22. Paige Druskis leads the Beavers with 12 runs scored and tied with Wendt with 4 stolen bases. Wendt and Amanda Franke are tied behind with 10 runs scored.  Nattie Murillo is the leader in slugging percentage with .352, has 3 doubles, and has a home run for the Beavers. Franke is tied with Murillo with 3 doubles. Druskis is close behind Wendt with 21 hits so far this season. Emma LaFave has 2 wins inside the circle this season while Kennedi Claycomb has 24 strikeouts.
 
Maddie Luderman leads the Storm (18-10, 1-5 A-R-C) with a .455 batting average, with 40 hits, and a .920 slugging percentage. Luderman also leads the team with 14 doubles, 9 home runs, and 38 runners batted in. Ashlyn Steen has scored 27 runs and has 20 stolen bases for the Storm. Taryan Barrick-Wessels has 8 wins this season in 15 appearances. Madeline Peterson is close behind with 5 wins in 10 appearances. Barrick-Wessels has 69 strikeouts on the year.
 
Bella Allison leads Dubuque (9-19, 2-4 A-R-C) with a .337 batting average, has 34 hits, and 7 stolen bases. Deanna Salerno is the leader in slugging percentage with .482 and 7 doubles. Dariann Diorio has 20 runs scored for Dubuque. Allison, Madyson Dwight, and Kaitlyn Power all have 1 triple on the season. Ally Gullette has 5 wins this season and has struck out 31 batters.
 
Clare Murphy leads the Duhawks (13-10, 1-3 A-R-C) with a .349 batting average. Grace Houghton has a .537 slugging percentage, 22 hits, 22 runs batted in, and 4 home runs. Morgan Machovec has 11 stolen bases. Emily Monahan leads the Duhawks with 6 doubles and is tied with Murphy with 1 triple. Ashlyn Hemm and Rachel Peat both have 5 wins. Hemm has struck out 76 batters so far this season.
 
NEXT UP: After the trio of doubleheaders this week, the Beavers are set to play a double header at Central College on Tuesday April 25. The first game is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
