STORM LAKE, Iowa - For the first time in school history Buena Vista University has a champion in the NECC. Valorant stayed undefeated on the year finishing 9-0 overall while losing just one map this fall. The Beavers defeated UW-Green Bay 3-1 last night (10-13, 13-9., 13-11, 13-2) claiming the championship of the Navigators Midwest division.
Map one was a story of back and forth. BVU opened up the game winning seven of the first nine rounds taking the 7-2 lead. BVU continued to play well taking a 10-5 lead but the Phoenix finished winning the final eight rounds picking up the 13-10 victory and giving BVU their first map loss of the fall. In the best of five the Beavers had to respond. And boy did they. The two teams played to a 9-9 tie in map two before BVU won the final four rounds evening the match up at one with the 13-9 victory.
Map three was another close map but the Beavers picked up the victory 13-11 before dominating the deciding map 13-2.
