STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Buena Vista University Rocket League Navy squad of
Skyler Keller,
Dylan Laughlin and
Matthew Jewell played well but lost two close matches ending their season in Group C play yesterday afternoon. The Beavers ended their Spring 2022 season with a 12-7 overall record in NECC play. They finished third in their division, for the first time ever played in their division championships (finishing second) and qualified for the National Tournament in the Emergents division. The squad defeated Marywood University 3-0 before falling to Dalhousie and Carhtage 3-2. The team was one win away from qualifying for the eight team single elimination tournament.
The Beavers opened up play on Sunday afternoon against Marywood University. In their first ever national tournament game the Beavers were able to come away with the 3-0 (5-4, 3-0, 2-1). With the victory it put the Beavers in the drivers seat as they would need one more victory to move into the single elimination bracket tournament. BVU took on atomatic qualifier Dalhousie. The two squads had a tough battle trading wins before Dalhousie won 3-2 (5-3, 1-3, 1-0, 0-1, 3-2) in the final game giving them the first automatic bid.
With the loss the Beavers would have to wait and see their next opponent. They would take on the winner of Carthage and Marywood. Carthage beat Marywood and the stage was set for a winner moves on contest. The Beavers won the first game 4-3 before falling in the next two games. In game four the Beavers took a 5-0 victory but would fall in the fifth and deciding game 1-0 in heartbreaking fashion.
Lots of great things happening in Beaver country and we are excited for the 2022-23 season.
