TUCSON, Ariz. (March 11, 2022) - The Buena Vista University softball team wrapped up a successful spring trip on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over Baldwin Wallace by scores of 3-2 and 7-2.
Chloe Wells quickly put BVU in front of game one with an RBI triple in the first inning. The Yellowjackets posted two runs in the third and that's how things remained until the sixth when the Beavers got an RBI groundout from
Ashtyn Miller and would would be the eventual game-winning sacrifice fly by Nattie Murillo.
BVU had just four hits in the contest, including a pair of
Alyssa Barnhart, who also scored two of the three runs. Â
Senior
Peyton Gross had another strong performance inside the circle en route to her fifth win of the year. She went the distance, scattering six hits and allowing just two runs while striking out two and walking only one.
The two teams played their fourth and final game to wrap up the day and the trip, and it was BVU scoring in five of the seven innings. The team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with RBI doubles from
Jamie Wendt and then Wells. Wells later doubled in a run in the seventh to make it 6-1. Baldwin Wallace scored single runs in both the sixth and seventh frames.
Wells finished 3-for-4 to lead the Beavers at the plate to go along with two RBI>Â Wendt posted two hits and three runs while
Rylee Cain also doubled in a run and finished with two hits.
Kennedi Claycomb improves to 3-1 inside the circle after pitching the distance, allowing just two runs and nine hits and striking out three.
Buena Vista goes 6-2 in the sunny desert and is now 13-5 overall. The Beavers return to the Midwest and are scheduled to play a recently-added doubleheader at Northwestern-St. Paul on March 19 before playing a doubleheader at Saint Benedict the following day.
