STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Buena Vista University Valorant squad saw its magical fall season come to an end last night in heartbreaking fashion falling to MSOE Raiders JV 3-2 in the NECC Navigators Great Plains final. The Beavers finish the season winning the regular season with an 8-0 record and finishing second in the playoffs going 2-1. Overall BVU finished the season with a 10-1 record. Its the first time in BVU history that a BVU team has won the regular season division title and fourth time that a BVU team has finished second in the tournament. Exciting things coming in the spring from this team.
The Beavers opened up the night on fire defeating the Raider 13-7 in the opening map.
Jackson Trotman and
Max Grace had 19 kills while
Aiden Webber had 18. Unfortunately in the middle of the second map the BVU internet caused the players to disconnect from the game twice forcing them to forfeit the map which evened the series at 1-1.
Struggling to regroup the Beavers would fall 13-6 on Icebox with Trotman leading the way with 16 kills followed by
Elizabeth Franken with 11. Map four was a must win for the Beavers and with it coming down to the wire they finished the Raiders off 13-11 evening the series at two. Trotman had 21 kills while Franken had 20 and Cameron Germain had 19.
In the final map of the night Haven it was winner take all scenario. The two teams did not disappoint as they played close throughout and pushed the game into overtime. With the scored 12-13 in favor of the Raiders the Beavers could not come up with the victory to extend the match falling 14-12. Trotman and Webber led he way with 26 kills apiece while Germain finished with 16.
Despite the loss it was an awesome season and we can't wait to see what this team will do next semester.
